The magnificent Redwoods… trees on steroids that have been growing since the dawn of mankind. *Pause* before I go into the rest of this post I would like to apologize for the amount of time it’s been since we last posted. Life has been getting crazy at our new duty stations but don’t you worry, we are going to finish what we started! This is Dom if you could not tell. *Unpause*
So Audrey and I made our journey from Crater Lake down for a day trip through the Redwoods National Park in California. The drive on the way to it we took the Pacific Coast Highway or Highway 1, which is known for its scenic views of California beaches and surrounding scenery. But as we kept our heading south, we eventually made it to a dense forest, which then turned into giant trees that covered the sky. The best way to explain being in Redwood National Park is to picture yourself in the mind of an ant. Yes, you feel very little and it hurts the pride a little bit but don’t worry you get over it after a while.
Our main goal with driving through the park was to see a big ass tree and some more trees. Luckily the drive through the park takes you literally through the groves. We did a 5-ish mile hike on the Boy Scout Tree Trail, which allowed us to get up close and personal with the giants. After that casual stroll, we beelined it for the “Big Tree.” Not joking that’s what it’s called and let’s just say it lives up to the name. You can’t look at it all at once. You have to crank your neck to be able to just look at all its beauty. It was 256 feet tall and 23.7 feet in diameter. We found our big ass tree I mentioned earlier.
So that’s all you get! The park was very interesting if you love trees but sadly we did not have the time to explore lots of it. So we hit the big things and got on the road. Because next up was our “Super Bowl”… YOSEMITE!
Editors Note:
We went out to dinner at a Thai Restaurant. I ordered a classic Thai plate with level 3 spicy for a slight heat kick. Now for Dom… he ordered Green Curry… and didn’t specify the spice level. When we received our food Dom instantly reacted to the extreme spice and heat of his entire entree. We laughed so hard during our dinner. Dom was convinced the chef was playing a prank on him because nothing could be this spicy and edible. However, Dom never wavers from a challenge. He took the bowl of curry in front of him as his next challenge. With deep breaths and breaking a sweat, Dom finished his bowl like a champ! My meal hit the spot and I left with a happy belly hahaha!
